STOP MENTAL ILLNESS FOUNDATION (SMIF) is a non‑profit organization advocating good mental health, preventing risk factors, providing treatment and therapy, and educating youths and older adults in the United Kingdom and beyond.
SMIF promotes social change and the empowerment of people with mental illness to enhance well‑being. Our work is grounded in dignity, confidentiality, and acceptance. We assess social and emotional issues that influence mental health and introduce interventions at multiple levels.
Over the years, SMIF has provided knowledge, information, and resources that help communities identify mental illness symptoms, adopt preventive and management techniques, and make informed decisions. We plan to establish community hubs for access to mental health professionals and recreational centres that strengthen brain function through daily engagement.
To create an inclusive society where everyone, regardless of background or experience, enjoys equitable access to culturally responsive mental health support, lives free from stigma, and thrives with improved wellbeing through awareness, collaboration, and compassionate care.
Our mission is to focus on improving mental health through awareness, advocacy, and access to culturally appropriate education and services. Through culturally relevant activities, campaigns, and research, we reduce stigma and boost wellness, bridging gaps for underserved, marginalised and underrepresented groups—including Black, Asian, and minority ethnic communities, Indigenous peoples, and trauma survivors—via signposting and collaborative partnerships for inclusive care.
Every individual deserves to live with dignity and purpose. Many people living with mental illness face discrimination, isolation, and loss of self-worth. Through therapy, education, and community support, SMIF helps restore confidence and hope — empowering people to rediscover their value and live meaningful lives.
SMIF UK

Donate NowMental health is integral to overall health. While genetics and the social, economic, and physical environment contribute to mental illness, SMIF’s work addresses these determinants through prevention, care and empowerment.
The United Kingdom faces a significant burden of mental health challenges, with limited access to quality services. Knowledge gaps and stigma prevent many from seeking help. SMIF advocates for policy attention, accessible care, and public education.
Regular radio, television and social media programs extend our reach, delivering practical guidance on self‑care, risk factors, and coping strategies.
We continually assess our operating environment to improve strategy, positioning, and sustainability.
SMIF’s identity blends promotion of mental well‑being with empowerment strategies to eliminate stigma. We acknowledge gaps in unique positioning, financial depth, brand culture, and communications, and address them with continuous reassessment of strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats to sharpen our strategy and execution.
Non‑profits exist to deliver public value rather than private gain. Many operate as charities or service organizations and may run compliant revenue‑generating ventures to sustain impact.
We build trusted relationships with donors and sponsors. Skills acquisition programs are free of charge for treated beneficiaries.
We pursue grants, donations, exhibitions and events, and optimize operations via volunteers and interns. SMIF operates from Lagos with plans to expand nationwide and beyond.
Your donation funds counselling, suicide prevention, education programs, and free skills training for beneficiaries.
